I have been going to Pilates classes for three years - prior to this I had not done any exercise other than regular walking for 20 years following a serious back injury. Doing Pilates gave me confidence to excerise again and it has strengthened and re-energized me. I enjoy the small classes and personal attention and recommend it as a way to stay in shape without stressing the body - great after a day at work. I see it as a whole of life exercise that is good for young and old(er).

I’ve tried the gym off and on for years for back and neck problems but all that sweating, testosterone and highly developed bodies just made me feel inadequate. Pilates has released my back and neck tension and the encouraging, supporting atmosphere of the studio makes it a joy as well as a challenge. I have noticed so much difference and can imagine committing to Pilates for life.

Having a herniated disc in my neck, I was looking for a form of exercise which was sympathetic to my condition, yet would tone and strengthen my body and restore it’s flexibility. I have found exactly that by doing Pilates at Prescriptive Fitness. The competent and friendly staff there have shown me how to actually achieve my goals. In less than three months I’ve returned to the shape I had in my early 20’s and experienced renewed confidence in my body. I have found Pilates a fantastic way to relieve stress and muscle tension which can aggravate spinal injuries. I now thoroughly recommend Pilates at Prescriptive Fitness to my clients.

Daily pain relief medication and interrupted sleep had become routine to me. Standing was difficult, sitting even worse and the thought of actually exercising was somehow light years away. My energy levels were bad and life was beginning to be an ordeal I was not sure I could go on with!

My doctor suggested Pilates and with some reluctance I gave it a go. When you have been in chronic pain for some time there is a real fear of making things worse. After one session I came away feeling better, but still nervous. After my second session, I went home and slept through the night! I awoke feeling something profound had started and that change was indeed possible. After a few more sessions the pain down my legs lessened almost completely and the pain in my lower back was greatly improved. Not only that, my body felt freer, looser and my stomach was already flatter!

Naturally I continued on, (as well as raving to all my friends about it) and after three months I am overjoyed with the results. My chronic pain has gone. I still get episodes of pain but they are much milder and with less duration. (And when pain does hit me, I am now armed with the prescribed exercises for MY body to take the pain away.) I am completely off medication. I stand straighter, look taller, feel lighter and have much more energy.

I had no idea PILATES could do so much for my body shape though. I’ve lost three inches off my waist, my legs are firm, I have a bottom that is actually starting to defy gravity and even my bust looks firmer. The extra strength in my body has given me the freedom to move more and I’m also able to walk for 25 minutes, three times a week, which has helped me burn up even more fat! Basically, I’m thrilled!

I started Pilates 6 months ago to change the shape of my body. The gym was really disillusioned me as I was working out really hard, only finding that I was getting bigger. I heard that ballet dancers do Pilates as it lengthens and tones the muscles and basically, I wanted to look like them! The results have been amazing. My thighs seemed to have slipped away. They are thinner, more streched and feel so much lighter. My stomach looks the flattest it’s ever been and my bottom has lifted and firmed so much that I swear my legs look two inches longer. Everyone comments on my body and asks me what I am doing and the other week, someone asked me if I was a dancer! Pilates is the best.

Even though Pilates is not aerobic, I’ve lost six pounds and I’m eating the same as before. My whole body has changed shape and I just love it. I do Pilates three times a week and basically, I’m an addict. Just do it, you’ll see what I mean.

I have a very demanding job and am prone to getting really stressed. Going to a gym with all it’s loud music and jumping around like an idiot did not appeal. I’ve been going to Prescriptive Fitness for only seven weeks now and wish I had found it sooner. It is bliss! Calming music, lots of breathing, stretching, concentration; its like moving meditation. My clothes are hanging differently on me and I’m feeling an awful lot calmer and yet energised. This studio at Prescriptive Fitness is a sanctuary for the working woman. It’s my twice weekly indulgence!

I started Pilates after the birth of my second child and the results have been fantastic. I can only go twice a week but I work really hard and the results are so worth it. My stomach his actually in better shape than even before my daughters and I don’t appear to have much cellulite. I used to get back ache, which has gone and my energy levels are so much better. I was not aware that there is so much emphasis on pelvic floor with Pilates, which is exactly what every woman needs, particularly after childbirth. Pilates has given me so much body confidence. And my husband thinks I look great!

Pilates is something I want to continue with for life. No other exercise programme gives you the stretch of yoga, the toning of a gym work out (without the soreness) and the mental work-out of a meditation session. It is a total mind/body session and I have found the effects to be profound and incredibly uplifting.

I thought geriatrics like me were too old for this sort of caper, but I gave it a go as my arthritis was getting worse and I wasn’t going to go to the gym. Pilates has been so wonderful. The girls were so gentle and helpful and had me doing all sorts of things I never thought I’d get up to. My arthritic pain is so much more manageable, I’m back in the garden and can do those ordinary things such as shopping and carrying grocery bags. And I can get in and out the car in a flash. I’ve been so thrilled with Pilates, I’ve bought a machine for home.

Pilates has made me feel so good about my body. I was feeling frumpy and fat and tired. Now, after a year, two to three times a week I feel I have a different body. I’m two sizes smaller, my stomach is SO flat, my thighs don’t touch and I even wear spaghetti straps as the backs of my arms are actually toned. I feel so fit and so much more confident. I never thought my body could look this good. Everyone wants to know what I’ve been doing. Pilates is brilliant. There is nothing else like it.
